Configuring a WAN Internet Connection

The following procedure assumes that you are required to provide a user name and password. If you are not required to provide a user name and password, make sure that you clear the This connection requires a user name and a password check box. 
 
To configure a WAN Internet connection
  1. In the Group Policy Management Console, expand Group Policy Objects and then locate the target GPO.
  2. Right-click the GPO and then select Edit.
  3. In the Group Policy Object Editor, expand Computer Configuration/Windows Mobile Settings.
  4. Right-click Network Connections and then select New
    Network Connection.
  5. In the Welcome to the Network Connection Wizard dialog box, choose Next.
  6. In the Connection Type dialog box, choose WAN(GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA), and then choose Next.
  7. In the WAN Connection Settings dialog box, in the Connection Name box, type the connection name, and then in the Access Point Name (APN) box, type the access point name.
  8. In the Wireless Network Type list, select GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA.
  9. In the Connects To list, select Internet.
  10. Select This connection requires a username and password.
  11. If you want to prevent the user from changing these settings, select Do not allow the user to change the connection settings.
  12. Choose Next.
  13. In the Wireless WAN Connection Settings dialog box, type the User name, and then type the Password.
  14. In the Authentication Type list, select the authentication type, and then choose Next.
  15. In the Completing the Network Connection Wizard dialog box, review the summary information to verify that it is correct. You can go back to change information, if it is necessary.
  16. Choose Finish.
The following procedure assumes that you connect to the network through a proxy server and that you are required to provide a user name and password.
If you are not required to connect through a proxy server, make sure that you clear the Configure how this work connection allows access to the Internet checkbox.
If you are not required to provide a user name and password, make sure that you clear the This connection requires a user name and a password check box.
If you are not required to connect to a proxy server, or to provide a username and password, make sure that you clear both check boxes.

  1. In the Group Policy Management Console, expand Group Policy Objects and then locate the target GPO.
  2. Right-click the GPO and then select Edit.
  3. In the Group Policy Object Editor, expand Computer Configuration/Windows Mobile Settings.
  4. Right-click Network Connections and then select New Network Connection.
  5. In the Welcome to the Network Connection Wizard dialog box, choose Next.
  6. In the Connection Type dialog box, choose WAN(GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA), and then choose Next.
  7. In the WAN Connection Settings dialog box, in the Connection Name box, type the connection name, and then in the Access Point Name (APN) box, type the access point name.
  8. In the Wireless Network Type list, select GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA.
  9. In the Connects To list, select Work.
  10. Select Configure how this work connection allows access to the Internet.
  11. Select This connection requires a username and password.
  12. If you want to prevent the user from changing these settings, select Do not allow the user to change the connection settings.
  13. Choose Next.
  14. In the Wireless WAN Connection Settings dialog box, type the User name and then type the Password.
  15. In the Authentication Type list, select the authentication type and then choose Next.
    To select a proxy server, use one of the following methods:
  16. In the Proxy Configuration dialog box, select a proxy server in the Existing proxies list. Or, if your proxy server is not listed, follow these steps:
    1. Choose Add.
    2. In the Configure New Proxy dialog box, type the description of the proxy connection in the Description box, and then type the proxy server address and port number in the Proxy (Host:Port) box.
    3. In the Proxy Type list, select the type of proxy.
    4. In the Proxy Address Type list, select the proxy address type and then choose OK.
    5. If you want to prevent the user from changing these settings, select Do not allow the user to change the proxy settings.
  17. Choose Next.
  18. In the Completing the Network Connection Wizard dialog box, review the summary information to verify that it is correct. You can go back to change information, if it is necessary.
  19. Choose Finish.
